Rule 3.00  The Hunt

3.01   Beginning the Hunt:  After the parade of competitors, rituals, and completing preliminary requirements, Clans enter their respective Cave.

A.     Wardens will direct the Bears and Hunters to go to their respective positions on the Bearball field.

B.    One (1) Ursa Minor will go to each Tree and an Ursa Major will enter the Den.

1)     Ursa Minors must have both feet in the Safety when Hunt is signaled by the Warden. (See Rule 4.00: Penalties)

2)     The Ursa Major may not step out of the Den when the Warden declares Hunt until the Stone is kicked, rolled, or thrown from the Den.

C.  A minimum of five (5) Hunters and no more than seven (7) may be on the live playing field when Hunt is signaled by the Warden or a point will be awarded to the Bears.

3.02   Once the Warden has instructed the competitors to take the field for the first time and verified Campaign rosters, the Warden will signal the game or tournament horn to be blown.

3.03    After the horn is blown, the Warden then yells “Hunt.”

3.04    The UM has thirty (30) seconds to kick, throw, role, or bounce the Stone from the Den. From the moment the Warden yells "Hunt" until the UM releases the Stone from the Den, the UM may not step out of the Den or a Bagged-Bear will result. The UM may then return immediately to the Cave or attempt to Maul Hunters. (see rule 1.46 Mauling)

3.05   Um’s attempt to advance to the Den after the Stone has been kicked.

A.     Um’s must Swim in a Lake.

2)  All Bears on the field have been Bagged.

3)     All Um’s have safely reached the Den.

4)     The Den is Burned.

5)     A Dead Stone occurs; i.e., Forested Stone.

C.    If an Ursa Minor is at a Lake when the Den is Burned, it must return to a Tree before start of the next Live Rock and cannot be Bagged until play begins again.

D.    Once an Ursa Minor has been Bagged or reached the Den safely, they cannot return to a Tree until after they have played as an Ursa Major.

E.     An Ursa Major cannot return to kick the Stone until they have served as an Ursa Minor.

F.     Clans must rotate players through their Campaign Roster.

G.    If both Ursa Minors return to the Den without a Bagged-Bear, then the Warden will call Open Season and Bears will to their appropriate places to start hunting again.

H.    An Ursa Minor may replace another at a Tree when Warden calls Open Season. There may not be more than two (2) Ursa Minors on the field at one time during Live Rock.
